- Petr Sykora sat out of practice last Wednesday still bothered by a groin injury that also kept him out of the lineup for the first 2 season-opening games against the Ottawa Senators in Sweden. And Therrien has said that Sykora will not be ready to play in Saturday's game. “I don’t think he’s going to play Saturday,” Therrien said.
- Saturday night's home opener against the New Jersey Devils will be "Banner Night" to introduce banners celebrating the Penguins 2007-2009 Eastern Conference and Atlantic Division championships along with 2 other banners commemorating the team's 12 NHL scoring champions and 5 NHL MVP award winners (they will also unveil new banners for each of the previous championships for the Stanley Cup and Presidents Trophy, conference and division to "standardize the expanding banner collection")
- Jeff Taffe cleared waivers yesterday and is now assigned with to the WB / S Baby Penguins
- New Penguins forward Mike Zigomanis will wear No. 15
- The Penguins "Faceoff Luncheon" was held yesterday at the Westin Convention Center and the entire team was in attendance (even Sergei Gonchar with his left arm in a sling). More than 500 fans attended the event and were treated to a highlight video of the Penguins 2007-08 season. CLICK HERE for video of the luncheon (mostly player introductions)

I have to tell this story.
Every time I hear Sykora's name, it makes me laugh. You see, I live about 7 miles from Pilzen. Only it's Pilzen, KS. There are some Sykoras, that live around there/here, too.
Pilzen, CZE is a suburb of Prague. So I told my dad, that we had to go up to Pilzen on Sat. last week, so that it would just be a short drive to Prague, and we could watch the Rangers game. He was not amused, but I laughed about it for days.
