Petr Sykora returned to practice yesterday to participate in the Penguins morning skate. Sykora had been sidelined for the past 10 days because of a groin injury and a few days of being sick with a sore throat during the team's trip to Sweden which forced him to sit out of the 2 season-opening games.
“I feel better,” Sykora said. “I will try to practice tomorrow and we’ll see how it goes.”Sykora may be feeling better, but he now has to be concerned about his conditioning after missing nearly 2 weeks of practice and games. With his decision to sit out of yesterday's game it gives him a few more days to get into better shape with practice and work-outs.
“I was aiming for today [Saturday] but it didn’t happen,” Sykora said. “I felt the pressure of the game coming. I tried to have a good practice and try to get back as soon as possible and it didn’t happen. You have to take it day by day.”
“We will be cautious with Petr,” head coach Michel Therrien said. “He’s going to have to be 100 percent. It’s a long season. We don’t want to take any risks.”
