Tampa Bay's "Penguin Connection" (a.k.a. "Pittsburgh Penguins South") is getting stronger by the day!! TIOPS "sources" are reporting that, although TB and Pittsburgh have only had preliminary discussions regarding a trade, Daryl Sydor will likely be joining Gary Roberts, Ryan Malone, Michele Ouellet, and Mark Recchi in Tampa Bay! It's rumored that there are alot of former Penguins pushing for this trade (I wonder who they would be?!). I've heard Roberts mentioned a few times. The catch is that TB wants the deal to include either Scuderi OR a 3rd round pick (didn't they just give up that 3rd round pick when they signed Malone??) .
Supposedly Melrose wants a veteran defenseman to work with his younger group and feels Sydor is exactly what he's looking for. How much veteran presence does one team need in a locker room?!
INTERESTING TIDBIT (also courtesy of TIOPS): the Lightning are made up of 20% ex-Pittsburgh Penguin players! What percentage do you think they're striving for - 50, 75? What do you think they'll end up with when the season starts?
