The Penguins Aren't Actively Shopping (Right Now)!

Rob Rossi reported yesterday that there is no truth to Penguins GM, Ray Shero, making Jordan Staal part of a deal he's offered Atlanta's GM in discussions. He has every intent to look into options for keeping Staal long-term and realizes it will be a struggle, but will focus on exhausting all other options before they release Staal into free agency come July 1, 2009.

Rossi also touches on the rampant rumors about Shero having talks with Atlanta about Ilya Kovalchuk and the fact that they're over exaggerated and report that they are not actively trying to acquire Marian Gaborik fro Minnesota; however, the interesting part of this information is that Rossi said it doesn't mean the Penguins won't be involved in such discussions (just that right now their name isn't in the hat).

In all honesty, we really don't want Gabby on this team. I've watched him play and (I) don't think he'd be a good fit.

Kovalchuk on the other hand, they are probably right about going after. But if we got him I would say that his #s would decline significantly. He kind of IS the offence down there.

Reguardless of who we might be bringing in, I REALLY don't see Staal still being here next year. Unless, he REALLY gets his shit together.
