Hockey to the Max

Yesterday night was the first time Max Talbot was in the FSN studios with Stan Savran to kick off his new segment, "Hockey to the Max." It will be a weekly segment (every Wednesday) as long as his schedule allows.

Stan mentioned that Talbot has an interest in the media and asked if he would consider a career in it after his hockey career. Max told Stan that his first goal is to be a successful hockey player (and is hoping to have a few more years to go), but he's always interested in that. He has been involved with FSN for the past few years and Talbot thinks it's because they like his crazy side. He added that he enjoys the media because he likes to sell the game as well. Stan asked him if he enjoys being around Steigy to which Max replied in his usual funny self that he likes to stay away from Steigy, and "Potash too."

Stan then mentioned Bob Errey and his always wanting to be a coach because he enjoyed the "X & O's" of hockey and Talbot quickly answered that coaching would actually be his first choice (before the media) and that he loves to learn the game.

They returned to a discussion of Max's crazy side and Stan reminded everyone about the segment Talbot used to do for Inside Penguins Hockey called, "MAX OUT" where Max would go out and do "regular" things outside of hockey (they actually showed a few clips as they talked). Stan asked if coach Therrien had anything to do with Talbot ending his doing the segment, but Max told him even though Edzo was a little more open to things like that, Therrien in no way was the reason he ended it and he just didn't think it was a good idea anymore.

They talked about alot of other things like his being born and raised in Montreal and the passion for hockey in that area as well as Lemieux being a big hero of his but was a real fan of the Canadiens.

Of course they touch upon Talbot's special relationship with Malkin being roommates for the past couple years. Stan explained that Malkin didn't understand much at first so Max would take advantage of it. Talbot explained that Malkin grew as a person and a player and they he would try to teach him English (good and bad words) even though he explained his wasn't too great being a french-speaking Canadian. Once Malkin become more comfortable with being here, he became more comfortable on the ice as a player. Stan mentioned Max used to order Malkin's food his rookie year and Max looked at him with a questioning look only to say "rookie year? I'm still doing that for him!"

One of his last comments was that the couple days off to practice was good for the team and their confidence.

Max is awesome and this segment will be entertaining -- they really couldn't have gotten anyone better to do it than Talbot!!
