Sykora to Become Free Agent

I've been following this story since it started becoming an "ordeal" around the time the Pittsburgh Penguins played the Minnesota Wild about two weeks ago.

It started with the typical Sykora drama of not being played and his complaining (via his agent on Twitter) followed by his being placed on waivers January 19th. Yesterday, the Minnesota Star Tribune's "Russo's Rants" blog reported that he was officiall assigned to the Wild's AHL affiliate, the Houston Aeros, and it looks like he'll soon become a free agent.

However, Sykora has officially declined to report. The two sides have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, and once approved by the NHL in the next day or two, Sykora will immediately become an unrestricted free agent.
Also according to the blog, "it's believed" Sykora was close to being traded last week but the deal fell through. It's thought that something may come about after the Olympic break sometime in March.
