OLYMPICS 2010: US Final Team to Announce Roster

USA was the last country to announce it's roster for the 2010 Olympic team and they did so during the broadcast of today's Winter Classic between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers.

It's a surprising list not because of who is on it, but because of the players that have been left off making USA's intent apparent - they want to "pass the torch" onto younger players and have them fill the big shoes of seasoned veterans like Mike Modano and Bill Guerin

Team USA made a class move by personally contacting those players who didn't make the team to advise them of their decision to avoid them hearing the news along with everyone else with the official announcement today.

Brooks Orpik is the sole Penguins player who will be representing the US in this year's Olympics (making a total of five Penguins players heading to Vancouver to represent Canada, Russia, and the US).

I have to say I am super disappointed about Billy G not making the Team USA roster. I understand they want to go in a "youthful" direction, but there is no replacing the experience, drive or leadership that a man like Guerin brings to a game. I have high (unreasonably high some might tell me) hopes for this team, but I am a bit nervous about some of the choices. I guess we'll know soon enough.
