It's well known that Brendan Shanahan contacted Ray Shero to voice his interest in playing for Pittsburgh and it's being reported by TIOPS that the Penguins remain Shanahan's #2 behind NY. But what's most interesting is that Pittsburgh has not shared in Shanahan's interest up to this point. TIOPS is also reporting that Pittsburgh is seemingly more interested in this possibility and that Ray Shero is speaking to Shanahan's representatives. Is it possible that Sidney Crosby has Shanahan on his wish list for his 21st birthday? Maybe. We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.
Honestly, I'm not sure it would be a bad idea. Even though Shanahan wouldn't be able to replace Gary Roberts in terms of toughness, he could be ideal as veteran presence which is something the Penguins have lost a great deal of and it was obviously something that was necessary for them to make it as far as they did last season!
Crosby [may] know best!
