On Monday, August 11th, over 30 former Pittsburgh Penguin players joined forces once again in the name of charity. Among them, Mario Lemieux, Phil Bourque, Bryan Trottier and Jay Caufield (see above pictures for more). The Alumni Association's 11th Annual Charity Golf Classic was held at Valley Brook Country Club in McMurray.
To date, the charity event has raised over $290,000 to benefit various children's charities since it's start in 1998. This year's proceeds will benefit over 100 children from the US and Canada who are part of Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Heart Camp, Achieva, The Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Western PA School for the Deaf.
Alumni representing each decade of Penguins hockey participated in the event and following is brief view of the results:
FIRST PLACE: Dennis Owchar's* team
SECOND PLACE: Mario Lemieux's team
THIRD PLACE: Dave Hanson (one of the infamous Hanson Brothers)
*Owchar was selected by the Pens in Round #4 of 1973 draft - 55 overall
“The event provides a great opportunity for our alumni to meet Pittsburgh’s business leaders,” stated Penguins Alumni Association President Warren Young. “We are very thankful for the tremendous community support we receive for this tournament which enables our association to succeed in our charitable commitments.”
