Over $100,000 Donated to Families of Fallen Officers

Prior to last Thursday night's final Penguins home game at the Mellon Arena, there was a collection taken for the families of Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle and Paul Sciullo (the three Pittsburgh police officers who recently died in the line of duty).

The Penguins also paid tribute to the three officiers with a moment of silence along with several uniformed Pittsburghpolice officers holding the flags during the singing of the National Anthem.

During an intermission, it was announced that the Penguins had collected over $100,000 in total which was broken down into the following contributions:

Penguins fans - more than $67,000

Penguins players and staff - $20,000
Penguins corporate partner 84 Lumber / Nemacolin Woodlands Resort - $8,400
“The outpouring of support from our fans, players and staff is remarkable and gratifying,” Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer and president David Morehouse said in a joint statement. “It is incredible the way the entire Pittsburgh community has come together to support the families of these brave officers, and we are humbled that the Penguins organization was able to participate.”
