You could definitely tell during the final minutes of Game 2 that Pittsburgh was getting "fed up" with Detroit and that no matter what they did or how well they played, it just wouldn't go there way. Nothing illustrated that better than Malkin's scrap with Zetterberg -- they just had enough (and, honestly, so did I as a fan watching the bullshit unfold).
It didn't hurt that the Pens were checking more -- Orpik and Cooke are BEASTS, BTW -- and the refs remembered to blow the whistle every now and again (moreso than the first two games).
I realize Detroit fans, and perhaps even the team to some degree, feel secure in the fact that they're still winning the series; however, they were also winning the game last Tuesday at one point in the game, so to me, there shouldn't be any comfort found in a lead because "it's not over 'til it's over!"
The way the Penguins continue to step-it-up means that they're not giving up anytime soon which is exactly what they need and part of what they were lacking in last year's SCF. They may have found the key to winning this series and bringing the Cup back to Pittsburgh -- and each and every player on that team has played a vital role and contributed in this giant effort to make it happen.
So to say that Detroit is hungrier for this than Pittsburgh is just ridiculous. The team has proven themselves to me and I have every faith in the world that they can do it and I have no doubt they will if they continue to play like they are!!
LET'S GO PENS!!!!
Well, just as I had hoped, that attitude and Malkin's "message" carried them into last Tuesday's game and they were just determined to make things go there way.
Once again, Talbot and Letang were key role players in the game.
If you remember, Letang scored the "legame winner" in Game 3 of the Washington series keeping the Penguins alive after losing the first two games to the Caps (making the series 2-1 -- very similar to the situation they're in now).
Talbot is always a play-maker that steps up when the team needs him the most -- very determined. Scoring the first goal revitalized them with a much-needed breath of life for not only the game, but this entire series. Now they need to build on what they did in Game 3 and move full-speed ahead - right over the Wings.
