Yesterday's News: Penguins Sign Bayda

[UPDATE - 09/29/2009]
Bayda was placed on waivers today and if he clears, he'll be sent to Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre / Scranton.

The Penguins announced yesterday that they signed forward Ryan Bayda to a one-year / two-way contract.

Bayda played for the Carolina Hurricanes for five years after being drafted in the third round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft (80th overall) and played three years at the University of North Dakota prior to that.

He attended this season's training camp on a professional tryout.

INTERESTING SIDENOTE: During the finals on May 22, 2009, Bayda was fined $2,500 as a result of a match penalty he was assessed for cross-checking Kris Letang in the chin at the end of game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
