OK -- this is like the second time I posted a date given by Malkin which turned out to be incorrect. The first time was with the team's visit to the White House (which was only a day off) and now it's the month for when they'll be receiving their championship rings (which is about a month off!)!!
According to Rob Rossi, the Penguins will be receiving their rings sometime prior to the beginning of the regular season which is pretty soon (Malkin said that it would be in November)!
Rossi also gives some interesting tidbits about the ring:
- although the rings are "silver colored," the material is more expensive than sterling silver (platinum, maybe?)
- although the rings will be "larger than any in the history of Stanley Cup-winning teams," they do not compare in size to the rings which the 2008-2009 Steelers received for winning Super Bowl XLIII (SO GLAD - I really do think those are awfully gaudy-looking!)
- inscribed on the rings: results of each playoff series and surnames of club personnel
- Crosby had input into the design, but the only person to have seen the final product is HC Bylsma
