Fleury Joins Crosby on 2010 Olympics Team Canada

He would, he wouldn't - we just didn't know, but with his recent high level performances Fleury was giving them a hard argument not to select him as one of the goalies on Team Canada. Starting in goal, though, is a different story; that spot will be filled by Martin Brodeur.

Alot of questions were answered today with the announcement of Team Canada's roster -- two biggies for the Penguins fans were that Jordan Staal was not selected to be part of this year's team and Crosby will not be the team Captain (that role will be filled by veteran forward Scott Niedermayer) although Crosby will be donning an "A" on his jersey along with two other Canadian teammates.

Here's the complete roster (stay tuned for Germany's, Finland's, Czech Republic's and Switzerland's rosters later today - it'll take me time to get them up here):

TEAM CANADA (announced today, December 30th)

Congrats to Fleury and Sid, I'm happy for them. I'm surprised and sad that Staalsy didn't make it. I thought his season thus far would have made a good case for him. At least the Staal family will be represented though, with Eric on the team.

That is going to be tough to beat. I'm also a little surprised Jordan Staal didn't make it--I really thought he's built his case these past few months--but there were so many excellent players for Team Canada to choose from. I'm not surprised that Crosby is alternate captain. Again, there are so many to choose from, seeing that several guys on Team Canada are captains of their NHL teams. (I do have to say, however, that I grinned an evil little grin over Crosby and Pronger getting "A"s and Mike "Leadership" Richards not getting one.)

It's gonna be weird to root against some of our Penguins players, but my patriotism wins here. I admit I'll be cheering womens' Team USA harder than mens' Team USA, though.

Ok... as a proud Canadian... I'm super excited for the Olympics!

BUT... I'm surprised on two accounts...

#1. No Mike Green? If Canada doesn't get alot of points during PPs... someone's gonna have to answer for that. I'm not sure I agree with that decision.

#2. Niedermayer?? I don't have anything against the guy personally, but I think there were a few people who would have made better Captains for this team. Iginla for one...

I think there's just TOO MANY great Canadian players for there not to be "snubs" like Staalsy and Green. As far as Niedermayer is concerned, I think they probably did that out of respect since he's the veteran on the team - that was my first thought when I read it(he's earned it).
